Papua New Guinea

Jared here today, Graduate Architect @ Modo Architects. Recently I visited Papua New Guinea to visit family and re-visit the family home from 25 years ago (green house). Being in the business of architecture, I’m always on the lookout for some cool buildings and architecture when I travel. In PNG, amongst the many western bungalow style shacks and cheap housing, there is a great, very simple, natural, vernacular architecture. There’s something very warm and grounding about architecture that reflects its local environment, an element often missing in western, modern architecture. In a world getting more and more concerned with climate change, carbon emissions, and sustainability it can be refreshing to see an architecture built strictly out of necessity.
